Estimated Readings

February brought some of the worst winter weather in recent history to our service area. This has created conditions - deep snow, ice and impassable roads - that make it difficult, and in some cases impossible for our meter readers to read electric meters on their normal schedule.

When this occurs, we estimate your bill for the current billing period and will read the meter again on the next scheduled read date. Most estimates are based on the previous year's usage; however, they may be higher or lower than actual usage due to circumstances such as:

  • A change in household
  • Colder/warmer temperatures
  • A change in heating source

As always, it is important to read and understand your bill. If you feel your bill has been estimated inaccurately, you have the option to read the meter yourself. If your reading is off by more than a few kWhs, you can report your actual reading by calling 1-800-Allegheny (1-800-255-3443).

Do not attempt to read your meter if you feel it is too dangerous. Wait until the snow and ice have melted.
